Rockstar Genealogist nominations are open

Nominations are open closed for the 2016 edition, the 5th year, of Rockstar Genealogist. Below is a list of those pre-nominated, mainly based on previous years omitting names of those who received few votes last year. The list is open for further nominations until noon EDT Friday 2 September. Do so by posting a comment below. Voting starts on 3 September.

Rockstar genealogists are those who give "must attend" presentations at family history conferences or as webinars, who when you see a new family history article or publication by that person, makes it a must buy. If you hang on their every word on a blog, podcast or newsgroup, or follow avidly on Facebook or Twitter they are likely Rockstar candidates.

Anyone on the list who would prefer not to be ranked please let me know at johndreid at gmail dot com. Your name will appear, so voters will understand it isn't an omission, with an indication that any votes will not be tabulated. That's the case with Elizabeth Shown Mills.

Here's advice for those wanting to make additional nominations. Each year nominations are received for local genealogy heroes who don't gather very many votes. Each year those without a national and usually international profile fail to make the final rankings. Frivolous nominations will be rejected at my sole discretion including those who cannot be found through a Google search using the name and the word genealogy.

I just would like to 2nd the nomination for Christine Woodcock. It is because of her ongoing work that I have begun to search my Scottish ancestors. Not an easy thing to do!

Diane Boumenot (One Rhode Island Family). USA
Although her website is detailed for research in Rhode Island, her search methods, her amazing digging into a wide variety of resources, her approach to genealogy - all those make her site excellent for learning more about 'how' to research. Much like J.Mark Lowe who teaches so well about the actual process of research while teaching how using a particular state's resources.

Linda .... I am glad I nominated Christine Woodcock last year. She did really well in 2015 and I hope she gets a lot of votes for her hard work in the genealogical community.

I would like to nominate Stephen White. He's an American who works out of the University of Moncton. His work on the Acadians is THE go-to source for Acadian Research.

I would like to nominate Ivy Sucee of Peterborough, Ontario. Ivy has worked tirelessly over the years to educate people about Dr. Thomas Barnardo and the Barnardo children in Canada, particularly those who arrived, where educated and lived/died in Peterborough. Ivy has successfully fundraised on numerous occasions and lobbied Peterborough City Council in order to erect monuments to recognize Dr. Barnardo and the children's final resting place. As the subject matter expert, this is a cause very dear to Ivy as her father was a Home Child. She has devoted countless hours and time to this endeavour.

I nominate Mary Love (Hayley) Berryman of Tyler, Texas, USA. A search will result in a lifetime of work. She deserves a lifetime achievement award.

I would like to nominate Roz who has done so much work on Irish Genealogy, with her Early Irish Birth, Marriage and Death indexes. She has made the Registry of Deeds so much more understandable and usable for us with her lectures and handouts on this subject. Her talks are always hugely entertaining and her courses are a sell out.

Mags Gaulden & Marc Snelling - What a great Idea the Swab-A-Thon was Here in Ottawa, to teach people about how great Genetic Genealogy is as a tool for Genealogy. I see from social media that this event is local and international in the interest it has generated.
