Paper of Record resurrected

The website at www.paperofrecord.com is active again. Click on the link and it forwards to paperofrecord.hypernet.ca

Information at hypernet.ca is that the site is a partnership.

Until earlier this year the collection had been available through World Vital Records.com.

The collection has 2.7 million pages of digitized text, with nearly 910,000 pages of Canadian content including 1,188 pages of the Bytown Gazette from 1836 - 1845, 5,902 pages of the Ottawa Free Press between 1871 and 1881, and 2,504 pages of the Ottawa Times between 1865 and 1867.


The newspapers with the largest number of pages in the collection are:

Informador, El Guadalajara 1917 - 1968, 264,614 pages
Simcoe Reformer, Simcoe 1860 - 2003 (partial), 238,501 pages
The Sporting News, St. Louis 1886 - 2003, 189,416 pages
Woodstock Sentinel-Review,  Woodstock 1886 - 2002 (partial), 155,724 pages
Afro American, Baltimore 1902 - 1978 (partial), 103,093 pages.

Be aware that the word search capability where the original copy is of poor quality is not good.

Annual subscriptions are $71.40+HST, There is a monthly rate of $12.95+HST. Both have a limit of 250 downloads/day.
